Academic Counselor

Arielle Santos

I am a proud Pinay from Long Beach, California who has gradually made her way up the West Coast.  I attended San Francisco State University and received my BA in Liberal Studies with a minor in Asian American Studies. I later received my K-8th teaching credentials with a specialization in multilingual learning and eventually my M.Ed in Literacy from Eastern Washington University. I was previously a dedicated middle school Humanities educator for 7 years in the south Seattle community and I still hold all of my former students close to my heart.

I chose to transition into higher education as an academic adviser because I believe education is a means of exploration and growth that every student should have access to. I also have always loved working with students to make sure they have a trusted space within education that makes them feel safe and supported.

When I am not in my dimly lit office with my twinkling lights, you can find me at the public library borrowing way too many gothic horror books. And when I am not in my reading cave, you can probably catch me at a local venue watching my favorite bands or learning how to sew my own clothes out of old bedsheets.

I've also created a "Declassified" Survival Guide for your time here at UW which you can access here.
