Uyghur

  • Uyghur is considered one of the less commonly taught world languages at the University of Washington. As such, the availability of placement and proficiency tests through the Department of Middle Eastern Languages & Cultures is dependent on whether or not faculty are available to oversee the assessments. To confirm test availability through the department, students interested in testing for Uyghur are asked to please email the Humanities Academic Services office via has-center@uw.edu.

In the event that a language assessment through the department is not available, students who wish to take a proficiency exam (i.e., satisfy the world language requirement for graduation by placing out of Uyghur 103), should contact the UW Language Learning Center to inquire about exit (proficiency) testing.

  • If classes are being taught in Uyghur, a placement assessment is for students who have an existing background in the language who wish to continue learning Uyghur and want to place into (register for) a specific class. If classes are not being taught, students will be unable to request a placement assessment. Students who have no existing background in the language may register for 101 (if available) without taking a placement assessment.

A proficiency assessment is for students who have an existing background in Uyghur and who wish to test out of (fulfill) the world language proficiency graduation requirement. Once a student demonstrates proficiency, they do not need to take further language classes to fulfill the world language proficiency requirement.
