  • Any current UW student from the UW Bothell, Seattle or Tacoma campuses can request a Persian exam.

  • No. At this point, AP and IB credits do not count for placement purposes in Persian language.

  • Students requiring a Persian language placement exam should contact Aria Fani, Director of MELC's Persian and Iranian Studies program via ariafani@uw.edu. Students are asked to confirm the following in their email:

    1. Their current UW student ID number
    2. The reason for wanting to take the exam (graduation requirements, placement, etc.)
    3. Their current level of proficiency/ familiarity with the language
    4. The date they need the results to be returned

  • The test takes 75 minutes to complete, but students should expect the entire process, include intake and review, to last up to 90 minutes.

  • Students who have completed a placement or proficiency assessment in Persian and are looking to get their results should contact the faculty member that helped them with their test.

  • Twice. After the first instance, a student may repeat the test after 2 months. Test results in Persian are valid for 6 months.

  • No, students will not have access to their test scores, but they will be informed of their placement or proficiency after the exam is over. When exams are completed, they are graded, a report form is generated and then sent to the Graduation and Academic Records Office. Results may take up to 2 weeks to be returned, and results will be emailed directly to the requesting office.

  • No, students will not get academic credit for their placement or proficiency exams. However, by passing proficiency exams students can meet world language requirements for graduation and requirements for majors and minors in the Department of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures.
