Current UW students who want to continue their study of intermediate or advanced Turkish, current UW students who need to demonstrate their proficiency in Turkish to meet the world language proficiency graduation requirement.

Currently, AP/IB scores are not accepted as a substitute for placement assessments in Turkish.

Current UW students interested in taking a placement assessment for Turkish are asked to contact Prof. Melike Yucel-Koc via yucelm@uw.edu.

There are currently no associated costs with taking a placement assessment in Turkish.

The placement test covers the curriculum taught in the 100 or 200 series of Turkish at the UW. For more information on Turkish class content at UW, please see here.

The proficiency test covers the reading & writing, listening & speaking skills as well as grammar & vocabulary in A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2 levels. 

Unfortunately, study materials for Turkish language assessments are not currently available at this time.

Students who have completed a placement or proficiency assessment in Turkish and are looking to get their results should contact the faculty member that helped them with their test.

Once per academic year. Test results for Turkish are valid for 2 years from the date the test was taken.

No, students will not get academic credit for their placement or proficiency exams. However, by passing proficiency exams students can meet world language requirements for graduation and requirements for majors and minors in the Department of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures.
