What do you love about your major?

I love it because it helps me to challenge my brain to think in a new way. It's important to be able to communicate with people in their own language. I am reminded that the world is bigger than my bubble of culture and there is beauty in this journey to try to know and understand it.

Have you studied abroad? If so, where? Tell us a little bit about the experience.

Last summer I studied abroad in the city of Meknes in Morocco for an intensive Arabic program! I am so thankful for the opportunity to do this. I lived with a host family and was challenged in my Arabic skills every day when we studied Modern Standard Arabic and colloquial Moroccan Arabic each day. All this was made possible by the FLAS award. This fall I'm excited to study in Amman, Jordan for a program in Psychology, Mental Health, and Wellbeing in the context of the Middle East. The coolest thing about the program is that it allows me to study Arabic at the same time as well as live with a host family! This is hopefully my next step in getting my language ability solidified.

The rooftop terrace of Founder's Hall.

English 121: Radical Care & Mutual Aid

What has been an unforgettable experience during your time at the UW thus far?

Joining Sayaw, UW's Filipino Folk dance troupe! It has been SO fun and such a positive, supportive community. I feel like I am able to honor my Filipino heritage through it, especially for my Lola who was a dancer. It feels honoring to her to learn the same dances that she danced and loved.
