CHID 250 H: The Literary Legacy of Tupac Shakur
This interdisciplinary course will focus on the literary and philosophical influences of the artist and activist Tupac Shakur. Students will have the opportunity to study a variety of primary and secondary texts, including The Prince, the autobiography of Malcolm X, and the Art of War. This Hybrid class is offered in person on Mondays and through remote learning on Wednesdays from 3:30 - 5:20 p.m.
CMS 321: African American Cinemas
CMS 321 approaches film and related media as socially and politically engaged practice, with a focus on screen media produced or received in "opposition" to dominant cultural and entertainment industry norms. This spring, students will have the opportunity to explore African American Cinemas; primarily aimed at Cinema & Media Studies majors, this class is offered Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30 - 4:20 p.m. All students will have the ability to register on a space available basis in registration period 3.
ENGL 258 (Intro to African American Literature)
An introduction to various genres of African American literature, from its beginnings to the present - this course will emphasize the cultural and historical context of African American literary expression and its aesthetics criteria, while exploring key issues and debates like race and racism, inequality, literary form, and canonical acceptance. Offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 - 5:20 p.m.
AES 404 (Advanced American Ethnic Studies in the Humanities)
A comparative study of race and ethnicity that examines experiences and cultural expressions of racialized communities in the U.S. and its diasporas from a cultural studies perspective. This class will explores how expressive cultures engage and transform racial formations and their intersections, animating social relations of everyday life and reshaping structures of power.
