Associate Director

Nancy Sisko

I have been in the arts and humanities all of my life. I’ve taught English at Washington Community Colleges, Directed and taught   at the Early Entrance program, Robinson Center at the UW and taught English at the UW. I was Director of Student Services and Advising in English and Cinema and Media Studies for almost a decade.

An undergraduate double major in History and Theatre and subsequent career in professional theatre eventually  led to two graduate programs in English. While completing my PhD in English at the UW, I taught and had my first professional job as an advisor. I fell in love with both professions and have been lucky enough to be able to both teach and advise my entire career at the UW. I love working with students as they learn new subjects, shape their futures and explore their careers. It is exciting to me to be a resource to others, to be able to offer them multiple possibilities for their dreams, for their goals.

My life of studying meditation and yoga and my involvement in social activism inform my position as an advisor.  And, I had several careers before I came to the UW, I worked for the forest service as a summer ranger for years, started a radio station, assisted in running an art gallery, and waited tables for 20 years. But when not advising these days, you will find me hiking, back packing and practicing yoga, or you will find me on the water, surfing, paddle boarding, sailing, and swimming. We live in such a beautiful place on this planet.
