Welcome to the language testing information page for Humanities-affiliated languages! Below you are able to select or filter the language(s) you want to learn more about the placement or proficiency exam process. A placement test is designed to evaluate your level of knowledge in a language so that you can enroll in said language. A proficiency test will help towards assessing your mastery of a language to be exempt from taking courses for certain foreign language requirements (College of Arts & Sciences 1st year foreign language requirement, JSIS, CISB, Linguistics, etc). Some hosting departing will have one test for placement and proficiency, some will have various options.

If you do not see the language you are interested in, it is either not part of a Humanities-affiliated department or a language not taught at the UW. To see the full list of languages taught at the UW, please look at the UAA page on testing in world languages at UW.

If you know which language(s) you're looking for, select them here and click "Apply" to filter the full list below.
